My celebration


WALT understand why different people celebrate the new year.     When do they celebrate new year and how do they celebrate the new year?

NZ
1st January
New Year
1 day
Camping with my famliy and my nana and papa.me and my papa let off fireworks. And we go places.
Maori
Late May or early June.
Matariki
2 weeks 
Learning about the land and how to look after it. Planting trees and winter crops.   Weaving. And telling family stories. Carving. 
Fishing. 
Flying kites 
Being together as a whanau is very important for Matariki.
They say Hari Tou Hou.
Indian
October or Early November
Diwali
5 days 
Food and love. And a Festival of light. They made barfi. They made rangoli. And tell stories.. 
They light little candles called DIVA. They let off fireworks. They say “Saal Mubarak.”
Chinese
January or February 
Chinese year
15 days



Family and friends. They have a New Year parade they get ready for the New Year it last for fifteen day. They red and gold decorations. They are the lucky colours. 
On New Years Day they say-”Gong Xi Fa Cai.”
The day after the New Year's day they have a huge parade.
Lantern festival is the last day of their New Years celebrations. They hang red and gold lanterns.
